Artist Statement
I take photographs because I’m fascinated by the world around me.
In the words of legendary Mexican photographer Mariana Yampolsky -
“My interest is the people. If I had to describe my studio,
it would be the street.”
By recording light with the camera, I seek to discover more about a common
human experience than the passage of time allows: about our relationships
with each other, with our selfs, with nature, and with our spirituality.
While I point my lense at subjects in the external world, ultimately,
in each of my images I discover elements of myself.
Though taken during a four-month visit to Costa Rica, I have discovered
much more significance in each image than simply a documentation of my
time in a foreign country. Instead, these images have brought into focus
(or foco in Spanish) basic emotional and psychological elements that I
relate to and consider to be aspects of a common human experience.
Because my own unique experience in the world has been as a woman- I have
titled each piece in the feminine. I hope that you too will discover aspects
of your self in these images.
